We know that when we work together, we move individuals, families, and communities forward. The Y responds to society’s most pressing needs by developing innovative, community-based solutions to help those in need to reach their full potential. We are also committed to inspiring a spirit of service by uniting individuals from all walks of life to participate in and work for positive social change.
This is a collaboration with Caddo Parish Public Schools to provide the opportunity for every 2nd grader enrolled in our public school system to participate in a 4-day water safety and swim survival skills program. This program is made possible through support from the Community Foundation of North Louisiana.
THERE ARE PAID & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIS PROGRAM – WE NEED YOUR HELP! CAN YOU COMMIT JUST 5 HOURS OVER 4 DAYS TO DROWNING PREVENTION IN OUR COMMUNITY? WE NEED SWIM INSTRUCTORS THROUGH THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!!!

WNBA Champion and Shreveport, Louisiana native Alana Beard hosted her second annual swim safety event at the YMCA of Northwest Louisiana on July 21-22. Beard participate in the two-day swim education program. Children ages 11-18 participated through Common Ground Shreveport. Friday evening consisted of an out-of-water safety presentation, a light dinner, and swag bags with tshirts, swim caps, water bottles, and coupons provided by Nike, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sportspectrum, USA Swimming, and Chick-fil-A. Saturday morning it was time for everyone to get in the pool with our YMCA Swim Instructors for swim survival skills and lessons. A good time was had by all and we hope the kids learned some invaluable skills throughout these 2 days with Alana and our YMCA Aquatics staff!
