Dear YMCA Member,
First of all, I would like to say thank you for all your help and support in 2019 to help us toward our goal of raising $283,935 for the Downtown Y Improvements Campaign. As you probably saw either from the social media update or the chart in the lobby of the Downtown Y, we have raised a significant portion of the needed funds and the work on several of the projects have begun including the transformation of the social room into a yoga/pilates room and the commencement of the work to update and brighten the entry and front desk area as well as the Ladies Locker Room. The first year’s response was overwhelmingly positive from our Downtown Y members and we are closing in on the total goal amount of $283,935. However, your continued support in 2020 is again needed and I would encourage you join me in matching my 2019 pledge in 2020 to achieve the remaining goals.
Second, you may be aware that among the revisions to the projects was the addition of new lockers in the Men’s Locker Room to replace the existing inadequate lockers. This added approximately $60,000 to that project. It is extremely important that we raise these funds and begin this project. Accordingly, as an additional incentive for the men, for a limited time, the YMCA has agreed to “sell” a full-length locker (like the one on display in the lobby Downtown) for $1,000. The new locker will be the “buyer’s” for life and no rental will be due to the YMCA for those lockers for the life of the “buyer.” Further, the “buyer” can have a name plate attached to his locker if he chooses (at the YMCA’s cost). We have approximately 185 locker renters and if everyone would “buy” their locker we would easily exceed our goal!
As I am sure you know, these improvements are essential to our ability to serve the loyal Downtown Y membership and also to position the branch to attract and retain new members. The YMCA needs the support and financial commitment from our loyal members such as you. As you know, your donations can be dedicated to the Downtown Projects, or any particular Downtown project, and those funds are dedicated solely for use on that project. As before, anyone who donates $1,000 or more to the YMCA (including a locker purchase) will have his or her name displayed at the Downtown Y as a donor, unless the donor wishes to remain anonymous.
