Aquatics

The YMCA has long been America’s favorite swimming instructor. Whether just learning how to swim, improving strokes, or taking water exercise classes, members are in safe hands with our certified swimming instructors and lifeguards.

The aquatics programs at the Y are about more than just the techniques and skills; they are about building friendships, developing self-esteem, and creating positive experiences that will last a lifetime.

Lifeguard Certification Course

The Y offers the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course, which includes deep‑water rescue training along with CPR/AED and First Aid. Participants must be at least 15 years old to enroll. Prior to the class, participants will need to complete the required online coursework, and on the first day they’ll complete the swim prerequisites to ensure they’re ready for the full class. Throughout the course, students learn the core responsibilities of professional lifeguards—preventing accidents, recognizing, responding to emergencies, and more. Certifications are valid for 2 years after completion.

The YMCA Swim Lessons Curriculum is a core group of swimming skills every person needs to learn how to swim. At the Y, we teach youth, teens, and adults to swim, so they can stay safe around water and learn the skills they need to make swimming a lifelong pursuit for staying healthy.
